The Podcast- Update.

Wetwired Time Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 5:36 pm by Finley

I suppose I should start at the beginning- after all, that’s the most logical place.

We started the podcast in April with an intent to do so on a regular basis. For a time, we met that goal. Lately, however, things have changed. There has not been a full, real podcast in a while. The last two podcasts were composed of prerecorded material rather than our usual shenanigans.

Okay, part of that is on me.

Some of you are aware of this already, but I recently began a new position at The Job. Because of that, my hours have shifted dramatically and I am no longer available at night to record the podcast. On the weekend, my hours that I am awake have changed as well and I am no longer the one with the most reliable schedule.

Admittedly, that kinda sucks.

Combine that with a period of the year that I am normally a bit more introspective than extroverted, and the fact that the three of us have lives that don’t always correlate to each other, and you can see the issue.

The question then comes up- does the Podcast continue?

The short answer is yes- but with the understanding that it will be less frequent than in times past. We will have a new podcast soon- if we have to go back to a single voice at a time, we will have one. To go along with that, that voice would not (and should not) always necessarily be mine.

I am going to put this out there for the other authors on Wetwired- if you want to record a podcast or a segment of one and send it to me for mixing, I’ll be glad to put it out there. Pylorns, Beerslinger and I enjoy the hell out of doing these, but this does not mean that ours should be the only voices representing Wetwired.

The Podcast shall return. Bank on that.

Out.

Out.

Update: We’ve had some technical difficulties with this podcast with compatibility of wordpress 2.6 and podpress 8.8.  We are awaiting an update but have managed to get this up with a work around.

Pardon our Mess

Wetwired Time Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 11:18 am by pylorns

This is a two-for-wednesday.  It would have been Tuesday but yeah… coding problems.

Number one:  As you can see wetwired has the new look that we promised.  I’ve been working on coding this for a while and given that I hate coding for wordpress, I think its turned out reasonably well.  There are slight issues with the sidebar and different browsers.  I’ll be continually working on it to try to address the issues that crop up.   Incedently if anyone is good with wordpres and divs and this stupid widgetized sidebar and can figure out why the twitter stuff loads 5 different ways from sunday on every browser, please let me know.

Number two: Wordpress 2.6 has been released.  This means new features for us, and maybe for you.  I tested slightly on our sandbox to verify all hell didn’t break loose and I’ve now updated wetwired to this latest version.  Let me know if you see something broken I might fix it, or I might laugh in your face.

Wetwired Studios and Podcasting

Wetwired Time Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 3:30 pm by pylorns

We’ll I’ve received my professional grade amateur microphone today via amazon. Bundled it comes with a pop filter but apparently those are on back order. Reason behind picking this up is that I needed a better quality microphone from what I had, and who knows, I might do some more phone voice over stuff like I have done before for other companies.  You know the voice behind the “press one for english” type stuff.

I now understand why there are so many books and gotcha’s out there about podcasting.  Sure if you’re just doing a single podcast for yourself its not that hard.  But if you want music, jingles, to use skype for a dual podcast - then enter the technical learning curve of quantum physics.  Ok maybe not that bad, but yeah, not easy.  Actually certain things are easier to do on a PC than a Mac when it comes to the podcasting, but the better software in terms of quality/editing seems to be for Mac.  I did come across some stuff made for PC that had additional items - i.e. ability to drop small sound effects and wav files into - I have not found that easy function on a mac yet.

I’m sure after some more time I’ll know everything there is to know about professional pod casting.  You see, when we do something, we want to make sure we do it well, not half assed.  I’ve listened to a couple other podcasts out there and some are good, but a lot lack that professional radio quality - excluding the ones that actually come from a professional source.

Here is a picture of the setup, microphone hooked up to the macbook.

Okay, Who Tracked Dog Crap On The New Carpet?

Wetwired Time Sunday, March 16th, 2008 at 8:44 pm by Finley

“So, yeah, we had a good thing going for a long time there. But Movable Type, baby, we felt that love start to die inside and we couldn’t go on just for the posts.

Oh, don’t cry baby. It’s us, it’s not you. You’re beautiful, yes you are!

So yeah, we’re moving into this cramped little studio apartment until we get our new place. It’s not like it was with you, but it’s okay. We’ll be okay.”

So yeah, you’re looking at our temp placeholding until we get the new site full launched. It’s not as nice as the old site, but it’ll do until we get everything up and running.

Oh, and I may have some news about The Job soon, so stay tuned.

Out.

Update: Site Back Up

Wetwired Time Saturday, March 15th, 2008 at 3:11 pm by pylorns

I’ve grabbed the K2 theme and threw up an older custom drawn header I had made some 2 years ago but never posted.  If you’ve followed any of the wetwired news posts about the site itself you’ll remember that several times I have begun to re-design the site and have not moved forward with it.  This time I have a new theme that I’ve got an artist working on and once its done I’ll be working hard on creating the wetwired theme for the site and then uploading it.

So needless to say here is the site in all its temporary template glory, but fully converted to wordpress including all the old posts and comments no less.  The forums will not be going back up, feel free to comment and notice that the comments actually work again!

.net addition to the wetwired family

Wetwired Time Tuesday, August 21st, 2007 at 6:01 pm by pylorns

For a bit I pondered buying the .net wetwired website but decided against it until i actually had something to put up. I may create a completely different web presence with updated CMS code and move all traffic from wetwired.org to whatever else it is. While we’ve had a great 5 year run with wetwired its time to take that next step and create a web presense that is smoother, more fluid and dynamic, and hopefully more updated. Stay Tuned throughout the rest of the year.

Wetwired: Simplified

Wetwired Time Friday, March 16th, 2007 at 7:40 am by pylorns

I haven’t been on the site much lately because life has interviened and kept me very busy. That said in looking at the bandwidth to the site, it has nearly tripled from 2gig’s of bandwidth last september to 13gigs of bandwidth to the month of febuary. A lot of this is due to people grabbing images I have stored here. To this I have enabled the protection to stop leeches from using up my bandwidth. Along with that I’m going to be down-sizing the site. There are several unused subdomains I will be turning off, several databases I will be killing, and older files and archives I will be removing. Along with this will be the redesign for the site that I wanted to do back last December but due to time constraints was unable to. I have the images done already, for the most part its just an issue of deciding on how to impliment them and upgrade the version of movable type that I currently have.

Site redesign

Wetwired Time Sunday, July 16th, 2006 at 10:14 am by pylorns

I’ve entered into a “contract”, or rather an agreement with a new Artist to design color graphics (drawn) for wetwired, and possibly future work for Magnified Designs. So needless to say some point this fall, wetwired will be re-launched with a new design. But don’t worry the old design will still be around, you’ll be able to choose between to two.. At least I’m hoping so.

Anyway in the mean time, I’m looking for something interesting to redesign, so if your interested comment and leave me your current site and what you’re looking for and maybe if I’m inspired, I’ll hook you up.

Jazz Sunday

Wetwired Time Sunday, June 11th, 2006 at 8:10 am by pylorns

So we’ve reached another Sunday. It’s not raining, but I’m still playing Jazz.

I’ll Never Figure This Out.

Wetwired Time Tuesday, January 24th, 2006 at 11:19 am by Finley

I was doing a little site maintenance a bit ago, and saw that there was a new Trackback for one of our older articles. Checking it out, it turned out to be a link for an online casino. Naturally, I deleted it. We don’t do the whole Spam thing here at Wetwired, and our logic is simple- if you want to advertise on our site, you need to cough up the cash.

Pretty simple, I’d think.

As I deleted that, I noticed that the Junk Trackbacks list had some items in it. MovableType, as one of its features, filters out trackbacks that are considered Spam. I opened the folder… to find 2412 junk trackbacks. Interested in this, I took a look at the listed items before I deleted them all.

Apparently, the online casino websites are doing well in terms of getting other blogs to talk about them. Not only that, but the cheap boner pill market is a popular subject. Mind you, we’ve never discussed EITHER ONE OF THESE on Wetwired before.

Or maybe, we have. Maybe subliminally when I was discussing the 2004 NLCS Champions one day I was really talking about cheap Viagra pills sold online. When Pylorns was discussing his top 5 movies he was really alluding more to being able to gamble online. Yeah, that’s gotta be it, right?

Out.
