Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 5:36 pm by FinleyI suppose I should start at the beginning- after all, that’s the most logical place.
We started the podcast in April with an intent to do so on a regular basis. For a time, we met that goal. Lately, however, things have changed. There has not been a full, real podcast in a while. The last two podcasts were composed of prerecorded material rather than our usual shenanigans.
Okay, part of that is on me.
Some of you are aware of this already, but I recently began a new position at The Job. Because of that, my hours have shifted dramatically and I am no longer available at night to record the podcast. On the weekend, my hours that I am awake have changed as well and I am no longer the one with the most reliable schedule.
Admittedly, that kinda sucks.
Combine that with a period of the year that I am normally a bit more introspective than extroverted, and the fact that the three of us have lives that don’t always correlate to each other, and you can see the issue.
The question then comes up- does the Podcast continue?
The short answer is yes- but with the understanding that it will be less frequent than in times past. We will have a new podcast soon- if we have to go back to a single voice at a time, we will have one. To go along with that, that voice would not (and should not) always necessarily be mine.
I am going to put this out there for the other authors on Wetwired- if you want to record a podcast or a segment of one and send it to me for mixing, I’ll be glad to put it out there. Pylorns, Beerslinger and I enjoy the hell out of doing these, but this does not mean that ours should be the only voices representing Wetwired.
The Podcast shall return. Bank on that.
Out.

Wetwired Radio Presents: Episode 12, in which our heroes explain about the Lost Podcast, do a quick and dirty review of The Dark Knight, and get interviewed by The Daily Texan for an article on blogging in Austin. All in all, a pleasant outing.
Out.
Update: We’ve had some technical difficulties with this podcast with compatibility of wordpress 2.6 and podpress 8.8. We are awaiting an update but have managed to get this up with a work around.

Friday, April 25th, 2008 at 1:18 am by FinleyOkay, so here’s the thing.
I have a new podcast recorded and ready to go. New music, even.
However, I just bought a new laptop and this one doesn’t have any ftp software installed yet, and furthermore I need to get some info from Pylorns to get the server info again. (My bad, admittedly, that I didn’t bother to write any of this crap down BEFORE SELLING MY OLD NOTEBOOK.)
So, be patient. There will be a new podcast hopefully within the next 24 hours.
Out.

We’ll I’ve received my professional grade amateur microphone today via amazon. Bundled it comes with a pop filter but apparently those are on back order. Reason behind picking this up is that I needed a better quality microphone from what I had, and who knows, I might do some more phone voice over stuff like I have done before for other companies. You know the voice behind the “press one for english” type stuff.
I now understand why there are so many books and gotcha’s out there about podcasting. Sure if you’re just doing a single podcast for yourself its not that hard. But if you want music, jingles, to use skype for a dual podcast - then enter the technical learning curve of quantum physics. Ok maybe not that bad, but yeah, not easy. Actually certain things are easier to do on a PC than a Mac when it comes to the podcasting, but the better software in terms of quality/editing seems to be for Mac. I did come across some stuff made for PC that had additional items - i.e. ability to drop small sound effects and wav files into - I have not found that easy function on a mac yet.
I’m sure after some more time I’ll know everything there is to know about professional pod casting. You see, when we do something, we want to make sure we do it well, not half assed. I’ve listened to a couple other podcasts out there and some are good, but a lot lack that professional radio quality - excluding the ones that actually come from a professional source.

Here is a picture of the setup, microphone hooked up to the macbook.

What? Holy crap monkey you guys are going to do a podcast? Yes we are, Fnliii, Beerslinger, and myself - across 800 miles of geographical distance, give or take a 100… we plan on lighting this up somewhere before the year is out. So keep your ears peeled…
Sunday November 13th through Saturday November 19th.
This week’s payphone location: John “Chuck” Erreca Roadside Rest Area (formerly Panoche Roadside Rest Area), 0.7 miles North of Fresno County Line, I-5, California (-120.78334 36.86421). The phone number of the current phone is, as always, displayed via the logo to the left. Here’s a short list of all the ways you can work the payphone magic.
This is not a great location. It’s a goddamned rest area. But I am “okay” with that. I figured it was Phoneswarm material because I walked by and the center phone (of three) started ringing.
“Did you call me?”
“No, actually, this is a payphone. I suspect the party you are trying to reach was calling you awhile ago and has already continued north on I-5. Does this sound like anyone you know?”
“Wuh … ” [click]You are probably wondering if this Roadside Rest Area offers restrooms, water, picnic tables, handicapped access, RV sanitation, and vending machines. The answer is a lustily-yelled “yes!”
The ringer on this phone is a little swamped by all the road noise. Good luck. The center photo is a decaying/inoperative push-button rest area/overnight accomodation indicator (”Tourest”).
