The Gift of New Music

Wetwired Time Thursday, December 24th, 2009 at 3:50 pm by Marie

Happy Xmas, WetWired readers!

Close, personal friend of mine (sort of) and of the site (after I conned him in to that interview) George Hrab did a great episode for his podcast last week. Episode 145 of The Geologic Podcast is “The Sort-of Kind-of-ish Best-of The Geologic Records Catalog Although Not Really.” It’s a really great mix of some of his more quirky, funky, fun songs that are hard(er) to find without buying his albums. Which you completely should.

Listen here

So listen, laugh, relax, and have a great weekend. Merry Christmas!

Oddly Enough, This Isn’t The Strangest Thing I’ve Seen Natalie Portman In.

Wetwired Time Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 5:15 am by Finley

It is, however, the strangest thing I’ve seen Kat Dennings do.

Be warned, the video you’re about to watch is sufficiently fucked up enough to just maybe be, in fact… awesome.

Kanye West: Finding New Ways To Make Friends And Influence People

Wetwired Time Sunday, September 13th, 2009 at 11:24 pm by Finley

The best thing about this video…

MTV Shows

…is not Kanye West making an complete and total ass out of himself once more, on the biggest stage available to him.

Nor is it the fact that Taylor Swift (a country singer primarily) wins a pretty nifty award and manages to get upstaged by the doucehbag prima dona that is Kanye.

No, the best thing about the video is the crowd reaction to Kanye’s actions.

They booed him.

HARD.

The guy didn’t even get a chance to get off the stage before his antics got the reaction it duly deserved. It seems people have tired of his ridiculous act, and his selfish need for attention has received the appropriate response.

Actually, the best thing wasn’t that reaction. The best was the folks who stood and applauded Ms. Swift as support after the jackass stole her moment in the sun.

I know I can be an ass sometimes, but I have nothing on Mr. West, whose first name seems to translate loosely into the word “dick.”

And THIS Is Why I Like Her Music, Folks.

Wetwired Time Sunday, May 31st, 2009 at 4:19 pm by Finley

I’ll admit up front, I have a pretty solid crush on Ingrid Michaelson. Not only does she have an excellent voice and an absolutely beautiful face, she also has the ability to make fun of herself and not take her “art” too seriously.

Witness the proof here, which is Submitted Without Further Comment.

Ahem… That Many Songs, Really?

I never realized how many songs used these four chords like this.

Nevertheless, this is kinda awesome.

Sirius on the iPhone is now available

Wetwired Time Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 at 8:45 am by pylorns

That’s right sports fans, the wait is over as there is a work around until Sirius / XM comes out with its official app.  Through the magic of a iphone application called Pocket Tunes Radio you may now listen to sirius streaming 128bit stations on your iphone.  If you were like me, you were very disheartened to hear about the nicemac application Starplayr that got dropped while it was still in beta.   At least now we have an immediate solution (note to XM subscribers, this is unfortuantly not a solution for you).

Below is the screenshot from pocket tunes website that explains how to do this:

Update: It works for XM as well.  http://www.normsoft.com/kb/idx/55/291/article/

Rihanna: We don’t need any more bad role models.

Wetwired Time Friday, March 6th, 2009 at 12:07 pm by Marie

Another addition to my perpetual theme “Girls are dumb,” I present the sad sad story of Rihanna.

She was born in Barbados, and went on to become an international pop star. Her first album (released when she was 18) reached #10 on the US Billboard 200. She serves as a cultural ambassador to Barbados. She has millions of dollars and legions of fans and she is only 21 years old. She is beautiful and talented and, it would seem, stupid.

As I reported in last week’s wrap up, it has been reported that she has reconciled with Chris Brown, her 19 year old boyfriend who slammed her head in to a car window, punched and bit her repeatedly, and left her in an alley. In the most recent reports, the fight was started when she asked him why he had received a 3 page text message from an ex-girlfriend. It ended half an hour later when Brown stopped his car (oh, yea, they were in his car, he was driving) and left her bleeding in an alley. She filed a police report, and Brown was eventually arrested. He is now released on $50,000 bail.

But, wait, you say, he apologized. He has a history of abuse in his family. He’s a young black man who’s just a product of the system.

Fuck you. Chris Brown is from Tappahannock, VA. He sang in his church choir. He also has millions of dollars and legions of fans. And he attacked a person. He attacked a woman. He attacked his girlfriend. He attacked a celebrity. As much as every human being should be outraged, shouldn’t Rihanna’s lawyers have been able to convince the judge to come up with something a bit more harsh than $50,000?

It is terrible that any woman can learn to forgive her abuser. Rihanna is very young, and this decision does not bode well for her future relationships, let alone her future career. The truth is, though, that this scenario plays out thousands of times over every single day. The fact that this case is so public is simply a fluke. What really worries me is that every parent in this country is not sitting down to explain to their sons that it is wrong to beat a person, it is wrong to beat a woman. Every parent is not sitting down with their daughters to tell them that no one has the right to hurt them mentally or physically or emotionally, ever. Rihanna is setting a dangerous and stupid example. Chris Brown should be in jail.

It is likely that nothing will come of this, and this couple will either stay together or break up a few months from now, and no one will learn anything. For as much as the attack was entirely the fault of the attacker, the reconciliation and the consequences thereof rest on her. And for that, this girl is dumb.

Happiness Factory iPhone Wallpaper

You may have seen the iPhone wallpaper – and if you have been to the coke website you may have come across the ringtones that you can download if you play the games but they aren’t the jingle that is catchy.  I’ve captured the sound and put it into a ringtone here. It’s already in m4r format.  Get it while it’s hot..no telling how long it’ll be up.

Make sure you right click and choose save as…

Below is the sample i’ve placed in the old podcast style format to listen to.

Sirius and XM Bankruptcy Filing?

Wetwired Time Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 at 5:15 pm by pylorns

Breaking news: Apparently Sirius/XM are working with advertisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing. This is not cool – especially since I just re-upped my subscription so I could keep getting free streaming radio to use in conjunction with usirius starplayr

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/11/technology/companies/11radio.html?_r=1&hp

Sirius XM Satellite Radio has been working with advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing in a move that could put pressure on the satellite company EchoStar, which owns a substantial amount of the company’s debt.
Sirius has been working with the restructuring expert Joseph A. Bondi of Alvarez & Marsal and the bankruptcy lawyer Mark Thompson of Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett to help prepare a Chapter 11 filing, people close to the company said. The documents and analysis are close to being completed and a filing could come within days, according to a person familiar with the matter.

ACK!  this is not cool, I hope I they continue service.

What is Your Road Trip Music?

Wetwired Time Saturday, January 10th, 2009 at 10:29 am by pylorns

route66

With gas prices down, economy in recession, we’re likely to see the return of the road trips.  Not only that people who do take road trips may end up doing things like visiting destinations that don’t cost much money if any at all such as state and national parks.  Camping, Hiking, outdoor destinations? That’s right, we’re bound to see an upsurge of these as it offers a great escape from everyday hustle and bustle without breaking your budget.

Getting your kicks, what music fuels your road trip?  Do you make a mix CD or create a playlist for your ipod on your road trips?  Personally I like to make a mp3 cd with the date, I may not label it with the actual road trip, but I like putting the date as I can go back and re-listen to the songs I was listening to at the time.

Do you have timeless road trip songs that always go with you? Do you just take the latest stuff that you are taking with you?

I usually have some songs that always go with me, like some of the older u2 songs like “Still haven’t found What I’m looking for” “Pride (In the name of Love).  Dave Matthew Band, “Satellite”.  From the Goonies – yes, I’ll admit it – Cindy Laupers’ “Good Enough (Goonies are Good Enough).”

If you watch How I met your mother you might subscribe to Barney Stinson’s “Awesome Mix” which starts at Awesome and keeps going up.   He calls it his get psyched mix I believe.  Motley Cru’s Dr. Feel Good,  The Humpty Dance,  I want to Rock… you get the idea.   What are the top songs you always include?

Rome, May 2007, Piano and Cello

Wetwired Time Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 11:56 pm by pylorns

I travel as much as I can.  My old college roommate and I travled to Rome in 2007 and while walking through the old roman forum we came across this old amphitheater.  A piano was on stage with a cello and they were practicing – we guess for a show that night.  This was may 18th or 19th in May 2007.  The only problem is we couldn’t find out any information about it.  I just dug up the videos we took and have been searching but still can’t figure out who was playing and what music this was.  If you know, please post a comment.

Ignore the chicks talking in this – they just happened to be blabbing away when I was trying to record.

Seriously it sounds like a cross between Yanni and the first part sounds like Van Hallen’s ‘Right Now’.

Requiem with iTunes is very nice.

Wetwired Time Saturday, November 29th, 2008 at 7:07 pm by pylorns

I was having a hard time finding a good application that allowed me to migrate my bought music to my other computers in my house or in my car or on my non-apple music players.  I found a great program called Requiem that helped me out by removing the DRM on those specific songs.  You see I’m the firm believer that I don’t want to “rent” a song or application from a company I want to own it and take it to any computer without having to worry if I have to authorize one of my other computers to be able to play it.  Not only that I really dislike iTunes as a player.  I’d rather use another software application.

Anyway one of the drawbacks is that if you’ve already updated to iTunes 8.02 or greater you’re screwed.. well just about.  You basically need to stay at 8.01 iTunes and Requiem 1.8.2 will decrypt these files for your personal use on your other devices.

You may be asking “where can I get requiem?”.  Try the pirate bay.  Yes, that’s right.. bit torrents.  Seach for “requiem itunes” and you’ll come across it.  I suggest scanning the zip file for viruses as well – I didn’t find anything but I also don’t trust stuff from bit torrents.

Disclaimer: Wetwired does not suggest sharing any copywritten music.  The staff at wetwird do not, nor should you.  As an added bonus if you were to crack the DRM your personal information is still stored in these files so if you were to share them with someone else that information will flow back to Apple and guess who will be out?  Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
