Hurricane Katrina…..

Wetwired Time Sunday, August 28th, 2005 at 11:07 am by magik

For those who do not know, there is a Category 5 Hurricane named Katrina heading in the path to New Orleans and Louisiana. Good websites are http://www.weather.com and http://www.noaa.gov if you are interested with that bitch in the gulf.

I, like many people who didn’t flee Baton Rouge, will be staying in town. For those who do not know this area of Louisiana, let me break down Baton Rouge and our relationship to New Orleans.

1. Baton Rouge is the official home of the 2003 College Football National Champions, the LSU Tigers. Get over it USC, you are NOT the two time national champs. FUSC!!

2. We are about 70 miles away from the best place on Earth, New Orleans. Checkout the interstates here in Baton Rouge: http://www.wafb.com/Global/category.asp?C=26677

The city had a voluntary evacuation yesterday and as of this morning a mandatory evacuation. The Interstates, gas stations, Walmarts, and other places have been slammed. Some places only have 89 Premium gas and people are buying it all up.

If this hurricane hits as hard as predicted, New Orleans will not be the same. Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street, Voodoo Festival, and gentlemen clubs will be wiped out. That will be all water and well, might be gone. New Orleans and the US hasn’t been hit by a hurricane like Katrina and New Orleans is under the biggest threat.

Thanks for the wonderful memories and fun New Orleans.

I’m not trying to start a huge scare or anything about New Orleans, it’s just something Louisiana has been waiting (and not wanting) for something as bad as this. It’s just going to be a sight to see on the news and hopefully the damage will not be as bad.

I will keep things posted as much as I can online while in Baton Rouge. I’ll be in the forums and on AIM. ImMistahMagik is my screenname. Take care!

Arizona teen convicted of illegal downloads

Wetwired Time Tuesday, March 8th, 2005 at 12:23 pm by magik

18-year-old University of Arizona student, Parvin Dhaliwal was sentenced to a three month deferred jail sentence, 3 years probation, 200 hours community service, and a $5,400 fine for illegally downloading music and movies from the internet valued at $50 million dollars when he was 17.

The FBI found more than $50 million in music and movies on Dhaliwal’s computer. The illegally copied property included movies that, at the time of the theft, were available only in theaters. They included “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Matrix Revolutions,” “The Cat In The Hat,” and “Mona Lisa Smile.”

A federal task force that monitors the Internet caught on to the student and got a warrant, Garza said, adding that Dhaliwal was copying and selling the pirated material.

Porn star to address Oxford Union

Wetwired Time Tuesday, March 1st, 2005 at 8:49 am by magik

LONDON (Reuters) - In its 183-year history, the august Oxford Union debating society has heard the wisdom of Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan and Mother Teresa.

But until now, its members have yet to hear from anyone with quite the same resume as Ron Jeremy, star of 1,700 adult films, including “Bang Along With Ron”.

“As far as I know it is the first porn star to address the Oxford Union. I’m 99 percent sure of that,” Peter Cardwell, spokesman for one of the English-speaking world’s most respected debating societies, told Reuters.

Jeremy, who claims to have slept with more than 4,000 women, will address the union on Wednesday, joining many British prime ministers, three U.S. presidents and political figures from the Dalai Lama to Malcolm X in its archival guest list.

“Ron is the biggest and apparently the best in the business, so I’m sure he’ll have some fascinating stories to tell,” said Oxford Union librarian Vladimir Bermant, who organised the event.

I wonder if they think that Ron’s bringing the hoes too. The English crack me up sometimes……

Man Who Flipped The Bird Sues Trooper Who Ticketed Him

Wetwired Time Wednesday, February 9th, 2005 at 8:39 am by magik

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh man said a ticket a state police trooper gave him is for the bird. No, not the birds. The bird. Literally.
But 42-year-old Stephen Corey said he is suing because he believes he had a First Amendment right to flip his middle finger at Trooper Samuel Nassan III, who gave Corey two tickets last July.

Corey’s lawsuit said Nassan ticketed him for following another vehicle too closely, then wrote him up for giving a improper hand signal, the middle finger.

Corey and his attorney said that’s wrong because Nassan filed the ticket as though Corey committed a motor vehicle violation — like a motorist who made an illegal turn signal using his hand.

Nassan chuckled about the lawsuit, but said the ticket was proper because — he said — Corey gave him the finger as part of a gesture that indicated he was changing lanes.

Nassan can afford to be good-natured about the suit, because it’s far from the most serious one he’s facing right now. Nassan and his former partner, Trooper Juan Curry, are being sued in federal court for the fatal shooting of 12-year-old car theft suspect Michael Ellerbe in Uniontown, Pa., on Christmas Eve, 2002.

November 11: Veterans’ Day

Wetwired Time Thursday, November 11th, 2004 at 11:16 am by magik

Veterans’ Day (formerly Armistice Day) November 11, is the anniversary of the Armistice which was signed in the Forest of Compiegne by the Allies and the Germans in 1918, ending World War I, after four years of conflict.

At 5 A.M. on Monday, November 11, 1918 the Germans signed the Armistice, an order was issued for all firing to cease; so the hostilities of the First World War ended. This day began with the laying down of arms, blowing of whistles, impromptu parades, closing of places of business. All over the globe there were many demonstrations; no doubt the world has never before witnessed such rejoicing.

In November of 1919, President Woodrow Wilson issued his Armistice Day proclamation. The last paragraph set the tone for future observances:

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation.”

In 1927 Congress issued a resolution requesting President Calvin Coolidge to issue a proclamation calling upon officials to display the Flag of the United States on all government buildings on November 11, and inviting the people to observe the day in schools and churches…But it was not until 1938 that Congress passed a bill that each November 11 “shall be dedicated to the cause of world peace and …hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day.”

That same year President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill making the day a legal holiday in the District of Columbia. For sixteen years the United States formally observed Armistice Day, with impressive ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where the Chief Executive or his representative placed a wreath. In many other communities, the American Legion was in charge of the observance, which included parades and religious services. At 11 A.M. all traffic stopped, in tribute to the dead, then volleys were fired and taps sounded.

After World War II, there were many new veterans who had little or no association with World War I. The word, “armistice,” means simply a truce; therefore as years passed, the significance of the name of this holiday changed. Leaders of Veterans’ groups decided to try to correct this and make November 11 the time to honor all who had fought in various American wars, not just in World War I.

In Emporia, Kansas, on November 11, 1953, instead of an Armistice Day program, there was a Veterans’ Day observance. Ed Rees, of Emporia, was so impressed that he introduced a bill into the House to change the name to Veterans’ Day. After this passed, Mr. Rees wrote to all state governors and asked for their approval and cooperation in observing the changed holiday. The name was changed to Veterans’ Day by Act of Congress on May 24, 1954. In October of that year, President Eisenhower called on all citizens to observe the day by remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought so gallantly, and through rededication to the task of promoting an enduring peace. The President referred to the change of name to Veterans’ Day in honor of the servicemen of all America’s wars.

It’s Official: Kerry/Edwards Concede

Wetwired Time Wednesday, November 3rd, 2004 at 10:25 am by magik

WASHINGTON - President Bush won a second term from a divided and anxious nation, his promise of steady, strong wartime leadership trumping John Kerry’s fresh-start approach to Iraq and joblessness. After a long, tense night of vote counting, the Democrat called Bush Wednesday to concede Ohio and the presidency, The Associated Press learned.

Kerry ended his quest, concluding one of the most expensive and bitterly contested races on record, with a call to the president shortly after 11 a.m. EST, according to two officials familiar with the conversation.

The victory gave Bush four more years to pursue the war on terror and a conservative, tax-cutting agenda

Christopher Reeve (aka SuperMan) has died at 52

Wetwired Time Monday, October 11th, 2004 at 1:48 am by magik

BEDFORD, N.Y. - Christopher Reeve, the star of the “Superman” movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.
Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.

Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.

“On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband,” Dana Reeve, Christopher’s wife, said in a statement. “I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years.”

Reeve broke his neck in May 1995 when he was thrown from his horse during an equestrian competition in Culpeper, Va.

Enduring months of therapy to allow him to breathe for longer and longer periods without a respirator, Reeve emerged to lobby Congress for better insurance protection against catastrophic injury and to move an Academy Award audience to tears with a call for more films about social issues.

He returned to directing, and even returned to acting in a 1998 production of “Rear Window,” a modern update of the Hitchcock thriller about a man in a wheelchair who becomes convinced a neighbor has been murdered. Reeve won a Screen Actors Guild award for best actor in a television movie or miniseries.

“I was worried that only acting with my voice and my face, I might not be able to communicate effectively enough to tell the story,” Reeve said. “But I was surprised to find that if I really concentrated, and just let the thoughts happen, that they would read on my face. With so many close-ups, I knew that my every thought would count.”

In his public appearances, he was as handsome as ever, his blue eyes bright and his voice clear.
“Hollywood needs to do more,” he said in the March 1996 Oscar awards appearance. “Let’s continue to take risks. Let’s tackle the issues. In many ways our film community can do it better than anyone else. There is no challenge, artistic or otherwise, that we can’t meet.”

In 2000, Reeve was able to move his index finger, and a specialized workout regimen has made his legs and arms stronger. He has also regained sensation in other parts of his body.

Finally…..

Wetwired Time Thursday, October 7th, 2004 at 8:30 am by magik

After a few years posting in the forums and being hosted on WetWired.Org, I will be posting on the front page. I want to know what you want to hear and read about so email me or post in the forum what we can do to keep you coming to our website………

Today I want to encourage people to register to vote if you haven’t yet. Why? As Americans (yes The Magik is American and proud) we are given the right to vote at the age of 18. Don’t be one of those people who doesn’t vote but is a vivid Pro-Kerry or Pro-Bush; it makes no sense to argue politics if you do not get off your ass and vote. Your voice is important in our society and your vote for your party is important. This goes for anyone and everyone who is American of all ages and races.

If your choice of president doesn’t win and you didn’t vote, you can blame yourself and other individuals who did not vote like yourself. Don’t pout and wine either.

http://www.rockthevote.com/

There you go…… it’s your choice, your party depends on it. Be proud to be American and not like those Michael Moores out there promoting hate.
