In Memoriam: George Carlin, 1937-2008.

Wetwired Time Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at 12:46 am by Finley

How appropriate that for a man who changed the use of language on our airwaves, I have no words to express the gratitude towards his genius.

To George, a man who provided some of the finest humor of the twentieth century and redefined what was obscene and what was not.

Tales from the Fringe- Vacation Update #4.

Wetwired Time Thursday, May 29th, 2008 at 11:07 pm by Finley

Tomorrow, I make my way to Austin.

Truth be told, I’m not looking forward to the drive. That being said, it’s at least better than the drive to The OKC that could have been made on Sunday directly from here. Today was mostly spent visiting with friends and family. I saw Beerslinger again, and we went and had lunch with a friend of his from his church. Afterwards, I visited my grandmother and ate- again.

It’s a tradition, you see. Any time I go over there, she insists on feeding me. Mind you, I’m not complaining. The food’s damned good, and I’ve spoken on Wetwired before about how good the food is that my grandfather creates. Still, I was full.

After this, I went and saw the dress rehearsal for my neice’s dance recital.

For almost 4 hours.

With many portions repeated.

My sister, who has patience for this type of stuff, was begging for the end of the performance portion of her daughter’s recital so we could leave. When that magic moment came, you could have only known which way we went by the dust trail we left behind in our rush.

This is my last day in Baton Rouge until Christmastime. I’ve enjoyed the trip, and though I love Austin and will enjoy being there this weekend I will miss this town after this trip. Baton Rouge has not always been a great place for me, but this time around I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation.

So, I’ve got that going for me I suppose.

Tales from the Fringe: Vacation Post #3.

Wetwired Time Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 at 4:34 pm by Finley

Many people tend to go out and spend ridiculous amounts of money on their vacations, going to parks and doing things that they end up paying doe the rest of the year.

Me, I’m sitting on a couch.

See, my trips tend to be low-cost if possible. I try to stay with people and avoid hotel or motel rooms if possible. I help buy groceries, which tends to be a lot cheaper than eating out. I try to be a good guest. And why do I do this, you may ask?

Well, mostly because one time I was a dick unintentionally and I’ve never forgotten it.

I’ll explain. 7 years ago, I stayed with my sister and her husband while recuperating from surgery. I ended up leaving a bit of a mess, and they were pissed.

Naturally, I was a bit perturbed- at myself.

I mean, who could blame them?

So, from then on I’ve tried to be as good of a guest as I can be. I clean up as  ucha s possible, I help clean, I help take care of the kids, etc. I buy groceries, pick up food if needed… and it works.

Since then, they’re happy to have me over any time. It’s all good, in fact.

We’re going out tonight as a family, for sushi (one of our favorites, it turns out). Tomorrow, I’ll visit my father for a day or two. From there on, I am making the trip to Austin for the weekend.

Good times.

Tales from the Fringe- Vacation Post #2.

Wetwired Time Sunday, May 25th, 2008 at 12:56 pm by Finley

Friggin’ Christ, it’s hot out there.

So, apparently I chose to come down on one of the hottest, muggiest weekends of the year to date. I know what you’re saying- “No kidding, dumbass. Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the Summer season. Of COURSE it’s hot!”

Well… yeah, I’m an idiot on that front.

Still, it’s nice to have nothing to do for a few days. I’m relaxing, everything is nice… and I’m starting to consider a vasectomy after dealing with little children the last few days.

On the upside, if my 3 year old nephew punches me in the balls one more time I won’t have to worry about the vasectomy. So, I’ve got that going for me.

Vacation Post #1.

Wetwired Time Saturday, May 24th, 2008 at 10:25 pm by Finley

I’m in Wetwired East once more.

Yesterday, I made the 700 mile drive down from The OKC to BTR, getting into town about 6 PM. I first went to see the family, then caught up with Beerslinger. He’s doing well, having long since retired his barkeeping skills but retaining the wit and banter that have kept us friends for 15 years. We had planned to see the new Indiana Jones movie, but me being tired and wiped out from the drive kinda killed that plan.

No big deal. I’ll see it soon.

With the trip, I see the nieces and nephews that I don’t get to see growing up, and I’m amazed as they develop into their own little people. Of particular note is my younger brother’s son, who is beginning to develop personality traits and recognition. They grow up so fast, and I am missing out on these times with them.

I’m in town here for a week, then I head up to Austin around Thursday or Friday. From there, it’s back to The OKC next Sunday. I’m definitely enjoying the time away, and it’ll give me that recharge I need every so often.

I’ll keep you informed if anything major happens here. Otherwise…

Finally, Our Long National Nightmare Has Ended.

Wetwired Time Wednesday, May 7th, 2008 at 11:31 am by Finley

That’s right, folks.

After terrorizing our airwaves for six years, Sue Johanson is ending her show.

Maybe now, finally, our long national nightmare may be over. Now, Beerslinger can flip through the channels without worrying about finding her show and screaming “GYAAAH!!! Old Lady selling dildoes, OLD LADY SELLING DILDOES!!!!” (True story about the first time he saw her, and one of the funniest damn things I’ve ever seen.)

Oh, and I’ll try to have the next podcast out by the end of the week. We know we’re a bit behind on this one, but we’ll make up for it with a double-shock this week. Don’t forget, you can also subscribe to the Podcast through iTunes.

New Podcast Soon.

Wetwired Time Friday, April 25th, 2008 at 1:18 am by Finley

Okay, so here’s the thing.

I have a new podcast recorded and ready to go. New music, even.

However, I just bought a new laptop and this one doesn’t have any ftp software installed yet, and furthermore I need to get some info from Pylorns to get the server info again. (My bad, admittedly, that I didn’t bother to write any of this crap down BEFORE SELLING MY OLD NOTEBOOK.)

So, be patient. There will be a new podcast hopefully within the next 24 hours.

Out.
