Go America

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

    New tat Marie?

“The New Colossus” is one of my favorite poems. It penetrates to the core of who we are as a nation, and our children would be better off if we remembered a few passages from it.

This is the passage that always makes my heart go pitter-patter:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.”

Not new, just thought it was the appropriate day to share.
The statue of Liberty is, to me, the greatest of all American icons. The idea of liberty, as Marianne, in France has always been inspiring to me. Before this design, it was going to be Delacriox’s “Liberty Leading the People.”
Did I mention that I spent a year writing a paper on the French revolution?
