Into The Final Frontier.
posted by FinleyIt’s not exactly common knowledge on the site, but amongst my friends it is well known that I am an unabashed Trek fan. My favorite series was DS9, but overall I enjoyed most of the series.
There was only one person that appeared in every iteration of Star Trek, be it movie or tv show. That actress was a raven-haired (though blonde at times) woman named Majel Barrett. She was famous in Trek fandom for two reasons- the first, being that she was the actress that portrayed integral parts on each series or movie.
The second was that she was the wife of Star Trek’s creator, Gene Roddenberry.
Now, before accusations of the obvious come into play she was actually a beloved part of Trek for her entire adult life until her unfortunate death last year. Fans adored her and her contributions to the lore, from the voice of the computer to her earliest appearance as Number One in the unshown pilot episode, to the characters of Nurse Chappel and Lwaxana Troi.
Yes, I was able to come up with all of that off the top of my head. And yes, I AM a geek.
Gene passed away in 1991, and a few years ago some of his ashes were sent to orbit by a private company. Now, the two are going up together.
I find this fitting, to be honest. The first couple of Trek will spend eternity amongst the stars, together forever. It’s almost romantic, in fact.
Well… it would be were they not dead and all. That’s a bit of a buzzkill on the whole proceedings.
Out.
