Snow Storm Austin Texas Pictures

posted by pylorns

11:30pm here and I managed to get a couple night shots – 2 sec exposure.

Shot from Balcony of Apt.

One of the Neighbors sticking her tongue out trying to catch acid rain snow.

Another shot from the Balcony

Yep, that’s right.  First snow storm of the season.  Ok who am I kidding? It’s the only snow storm we’ll see this season.  It doesn’t snow here.  Actually it’s not even a snow storm.  It’s God’s joke on us Texans – “Look you can see it as snow in the air but as soon as it hits the ground its rain.  Suckers.”

Ah well. Enjoy the winter slushyland while you can folks, cause its so damn rare around here.

Update(12-10-08): Here are some extra pictures shared by Paul taken in Leander/Cedar Park area of the storm last night:

Glad we captured the moment when we did, because it looks like it’s over. :-)

I’ve been here 7 years and don’t recall ever having seen snow here in December. I’ll have to investigate and see if that’s truly the case.

This snow storm was so rare. Me and my boyfriend actually got together enough snow to make a small family of snow people. Never gonna see that again here.

  3. SrRaV1981 Says:

All we got in Round Rock was Sleet.

  4. pylorns Says:

Ah, glad I was over at the apartment instead of my house.

  5. SrRaV1981 Says:

There were allot of cars in the parking lot this morning with actual snow on them.

  6. Joe Says:

“Never gonna see that again here.”

Yeah you will. It happens about every few years. You must be a newbie. Even Galveston had 4 inches on Christmas Eve in 2004.

  7. pylorns Says:

It happened 2 Valentines Day’s ago here in Austin.. lots of accumulation.

  8. SrRaV1981 Says:

    3 Valentines, 2005 :p

I will take the “snow storm” you had in Texas, over the snow and ice storms we have had in Indiana. A few of my sisters (4 of them) live in Austin and they had a good time with the cold weather they had. They called when it started and sounded as excited as 6 year olds on Christmas morning. It was cute. While Austin had it ’snow storm” we were having a four inch ice storm. Everything was covered and the plows and salt trucks had a hard time keeping up. Glas Austin survived. My daughter lives in New Orleans and theri interstate was closed due to a 4″ snow fall. My husband, who is from Indiana, laughed until I reminded him that the South is not prepard with snow and ice removal equipment as we are here.

True, we don’t have to live with it for months of the year.

I enjoy how people here in Austin call a few flakes a SNOW STORM. Hahaha. Go up to New York where I’m from and get locked in for a week at a time. Then you’ll know what a real SNOW STORM is. Texas idiots.

  12. Dee Says:

To the people of Texas yes I feel bad for all of you because your state is not prepared for a snow storm and 3″ is alot to you guys. We heard here in NY alot of parts of Texas wion’t have electric until some February.
People please wise up and start to prepare for every type of weather condition.
Here in NY we are prepared for the worse, and sometimes it worse than we think but we are ready.

  13. pylorns Says:

lol wow. Texas is fine. How about you guys in new york prepare for Hurricanes. Texas has not had the same problems as other states have had – especially recently we’re not the state that has power issues – you might want to get up with your current events.

HEY RETARDS GUES WHAT IT’S GOING TO SNOW TONIGHT AND TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Mafer Says:

hmm actually not tonight but tomorrow morning and afternoon..weird!! =)

  16. Mafer Says:

    It didn’t snow!!! =(!!

  17. Robert Johnsen Says:

Wow!! When you Texans don’t have the equipment or the normal annual exposure to snow, even a small amount is a major, major problem for you. I would rather live where it snows every year than to live where it is a rarity.
Here in Duluth, MN we are having a hugh snow storm for us. It has been snowing for two days, and they say that we will have an additional two more snow days. The accumulation of snow from Thursday through noon today, is approximately 19″, with another 10 to 12″ expected to come by Sunday. This morning it rained real hard for two+ hours which makes it hard to shovel because of the weight and stickiness (it’s like working with wet concrete). I have a 12 horsepower (450 pound) snow blower and it has taken 7 hours, to keep my 1500 square foot driveway open so far (and many sprays of WD40 on the moving parts of the snow blower to keep the snow moving through).
During the 1996-97 season, we received a record total of 136″ of snow. On the south shore of Lake Superior the record snow fall is 342″ caused by ‘lake effect’ snow. The wind blows for miles & miles over open water on Lake Superior and dumps this moisture as snow in northeastern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.

  18. pylorns Says:

well you people are just crazy

  19. MJ Says:

Amen Py! Robert, I would rather live in a place that shuts completely down for the tiniest snow fall, we get to stay home and blog more or get to watch all the idiots on the roads sliding, because we do not have the road crews to keep our roads de-iced down here. It is like a free vacation day! There are places in Texas that get snow every year, and then there are some places that can see 80 degree heat at the same time it is freezing somewhere else in Texas, I hate to say, but I would not live any where else but Texas! oh yeah Console games KICK ASS!

    Thanks for sharing the pictures
