World of Warcraft Expansion

posted by pylorns

So this freaking game is getting released - the Wrath of the Lich King. I’m growing more and more tired of hearing people at work talk about how they can’t wait and how there are launch parties going on and people who are counting down the minutes.  Prax himself told me not to expect to hear from him this weekend.

What do I call that? Sad.  I hate World of Warcraft and I hate it’s predicesor Everquest.  Those type of MMORG are life sucking anti-social addicting games.

I watched a buddy of mine get dumped by his fiance because he hadn’t been home, showered, done anything for a month solid let alone spend any time with her.

Or how about this one? The chick who split with her her boyfriend. The guy has absolutely no friends outside of the game now.  There is more to life than playing a game like this.

So my advice, if you’re counting the minutes to play this game and you realize that you’ve played 12 hours straight without eating or going to the bathroom.  You have a problem.  Put the mouse down…step away from the computer…

lol. it’s really sad how people get addicted to this game. my brother-in-law was the same way until my sister made him get rid of his account. he would zone out in front of the computer for 10 hours straight and would get irritated when you disturbed him.

I think that it is weird that people can hate a game. Especially one that they have never played. It is strange to me that people think it is also anti-social.

It is also weird to me that people playing the game can do so for hours without eating, sleeping etc.

I suppose I am lucky. I play a lot but I still go to work, shower, do my chores and hang out with my friends.

There are definitely people who can’t handle it. Just like there are people who can’t handle fantasy football, television or little league.

If your significant other won’t walk away from the box when you want to go to a movie, have sex, go to a party etc - then the problem is with them and not with the game.

As to it being anti-social - this is the oddest of them all to me. Most everything that happens in game has to happen with OTHER people. On the whole you can’t do they whole thing alone. So yeah - a bunch of my friends are in game. These are also the same people that go to eat, movies, parties and vacations together. In fact, there is a regular Disneyland trip with my group.

They are real people, so when we plan to play it is exactly the same as being part of a bowling or softball league. You don’t want to let those people down and it is somewhat important to be where you promised to be and when.

That said - at least in my experience - if something comes up, it is easy enough to call, write or IM someone and say - “I can’t be there” and no one gets mad.

Of course there are people who have a problem but for the most part players are pretty normal people who do have fulfilling lives outside the game.
