iPhone Pwnagetool for Mac 2.02 delayed

posted by pylorns

It was released last night, some of us (me) actually downloaded it but I did not jailbreak last night as I didn’t have time.  That said, maybe it was a good thing that I didn’t.  Apparently there are some issues with the tool with passwords but it appears they may be more ipod touch related. From the horses mouth:

We’ve had some issues with iPod touch devices and the latest version of PwnageTool for the Mac, in certain conditions incorrect permissions will be used and the keychain doesn’t save passwords. So hold on and wait for the next release, we’ll push out the updated version via Sparkle as soon as it is tested (it is being tested right now).

I suggest waiting a bit longer.

I’m going to take another crack at it, and document the process as I go. They released 2.0.3.1 via sparkle (start Pwnage and check for updates), and I’m downloading the update right now. I’ll let you guys know how I make out.

It took me a few tries to update Pwnage using Sparkle, but I eventually got it updated.

This time, I used expert mode to build my firmware. First thing I did was run a backup of my iPhone with iTunes. I obtained the firmware by using iTunes, clicking “Check For Update” and then agreeing to all of the nag screens. When iTunes started downloading the update, I unplugged my iPhone, and let iTunes finish downloading the update. Once the update was downloaded, I started Pwnage, which found the updated firmware file, no problem. Using expert mode, I was able to create a new firmware file.

I shut off my iPhone, held down the home button, and plugged it back into my laptop. It started up with the Pineapple logo, then switched to the recovery screen with the caricature of Jobs. I used iTunes to load the firmware, which loaded with no problems whatsoever. Then I selected the restore option, selected the backup I just made, which loaded with no problems. When the iPhone rebooted, I got the same restore/setup new screen in iTunes. This time I selected Set up as new, checked the name, and that’s it!

I haven’t noticed much difference yet, but I suspect I’ll notice something eventually.
