Last night Jenn, Blake, and I drove downtown amidst the craziness that was the last of SXSW, found a decent place to park and trekked to the new Alamo Draft House. This was our first time at the new one which is now located in the old Ritz. It is slightly larger than the original downtown location in that it has 2 screens instead of just one. Mondo Tees is also tightly integrated in the corner of the theatre as well for all your 80’s style t-shirts.
We got to the sold out showing about 45 minutes early and had to wait around for a bit prior to seating but once we were down, we enjoyed our perfect seats as others struggled to find a good spot. For me it was my first time seeing this type of event, and I can tell you I’ll be back again for the next one. For those of you familiar with Mystery Science Theatre 3000, Master Pancake is the same thing cept imagine watching it on crack. The Austinist did a great interview with them this past February.
This February, Master Pancake plays host to the reunion of two original cast members from the Sinus Show: John Erler (the tall bald one) and Owen Egerton (the compact ginger nut), who, along with pal Joe Parsons, lampoon Back to the Future (1985), a film so iconic that for a brief period in the mid-80’s it convinced people that DeLoreans, Burger King, and Huey Lewis and the News were hip. Michael J. Fox (FAMILY TIES, TEEN WOLF) plays, well, Michael J. Fox — or Marty Mc Fly as he’s called here — who travels back in time in order to save his professorial pal ‘Doc’, played by Christopher Lloyd (CLUE, STAR TREK III). Along the way, Mc Fox ends up inventing Rock ‘n Roll, changing the future, and almost dating his own mom. Oedipally complex, this movie features a brilliant performance from indie-icon Crispin Glover as Marty’s exquisitely milquetoast dad, who eventually learns how to sock it to Biff. Time Mc Flys when you’re having fun, and you’ll be having 1.21 jigowatts of it this February, with film-embellishers John, Owen and Joe, weekends at the Alamo Ritz, Village, and So. Lamar. (John)
Seeing one of my old favorites of Back to the Future was a great way to be introduced, aside from the many Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s jokes. The comedians stopped the movie in the middle to act out in full costune a little skit in which, Marty has the shakes. I actually felt sorry for the guy doing it as he was getting pretty damn tired jumping around. All in all very cool, catch the next Master Pancake Theatre the rest of this month doing ET. Unfortunatly for you, this was the last Back to the Future they will be doing.

“So, yeah, we had a good thing going for a long time there. But Movable Type, baby, we felt that love start to die inside and we couldn’t go on just for the posts.
Oh, don’t cry baby. It’s us, it’s not you. You’re beautiful, yes you are!
So yeah, we’re moving into this cramped little studio apartment until we get our new place. It’s not like it was with you, but it’s okay. We’ll be okay.”
So yeah, you’re looking at our temp placeholding until we get the new site full launched. It’s not as nice as the old site, but it’ll do until we get everything up and running.
Oh, and I may have some news about The Job soon, so stay tuned.
Out.

Repost from 3/18/2002 - Lost from previous websites.
I have three beautiful female friends that are intelligent, artistic and quite religious. I have for many years admired them. The other night during a very enjoyable conversation about everything, and nothing, one of them made a comment that has troubled me deeply. I happened to be telling them about a difficult biology class I had taken a few semesters ago, and the subject turned to evolution. At dinner that night, my friend stated that evolution is a myth created by science to draw our attention away from God. That statement in and of itself was enough to send a cold shiver down my spine, but it was the next that turned my blood to ice. I asked her why she believed that, and she simply stated, “I believe it because it’s the truth. My church said so.”
Karen can believe in evolution or not, that’s not my problem. It scares the hell out of me to think she believed it just because someone told her too. As a child we accept what we are told, as an adult, we must question it. It’s like a type of “spiritual peer pressure.” Fast Food Religion: get on the bus, just be sure you don’t rock the boat. Our beliefs, no matter what they are, should not be a static thing. They should grow and change with us.
What happens to us when we stop questioning what we are told? We loose freedom. An invisible barrier has just been crossed, and it becomes easier and easier to cross it each time. In most cases, we simply loose a bit of ourselves and our identity becomes more and more generic. In other cases, it’s catastrophic. How did you feel when you saw the films of people celebrating in the streets when America had been attacked? That is the end result of complacency. Those people didn’t really hate America; they hated what they had been told of America.
As long as Karen’s belief stays unquestioned, it will be like a cancer inside of her. It will sit there in the back of her mind and to some degree influence everything else about her. Ignorance and intolerance breed upon themselves, and the only cure is self-evaluation and examination. The problem is, it isn’t easy.
The word Catharsis means to undergo a spiritual rebirth through the suffering of hardship. It comes from the Greek word that means, “to pass a hard stool.” It is supposed to be difficult to settle into our ideals; otherwise they crumble in the face of adversity. If our beliefs are handed to us, or force-feed to us, then they are worthless. They are dangerous and dehumanizing. This is not a sermon to go out and find religion; it is a plea to question what you have already been told.

It’s Sunday and its time to tune in to Chillville with Austin’s original radio program for electropop, and downbeat electronic music from 9-12. Listen to the live stream here.
The coolest thing is that the chillville website posts their playlist up on their site for you to find out who is playing so you can pick up the music via itunes. Or download it off some other way…but yeah, you should support the artists. So if you do download it without say paying for it, go to the artists website and send them some money instead of those evil record companies…Too bad more artists don’t have donate boxes on their sites.

I’ve grabbed the K2 theme and threw up an older custom drawn header I had made some 2 years ago but never posted. If you’ve followed any of the wetwired news posts about the site itself you’ll remember that several times I have begun to re-design the site and have not moved forward with it. This time I have a new theme that I’ve got an artist working on and once its done I’ll be working hard on creating the wetwired theme for the site and then uploading it.
So needless to say here is the site in all its temporary template glory, but fully converted to wordpress including all the old posts and comments no less. The forums will not be going back up, feel free to comment and notice that the comments actually work again!

So, Prince Harry used to be a bit of a shithead.
See, it’s never cool to show up at a Halloween party dressed as a Nazi. So, after doing so a few years back (thus earning the former Douche status) Harry ends up going into the Military.
Unlike his pussy older brother though, Harry ends up serving in Afghanistan.
That’s right, you heard me. Dude went off to fight for his country against the Taliban- a group that as soon as they found out he was there (Thanks, CNN) vowed to kill the guy.
Naturally, the British Army sends him home once his mission is revealed. So, once he’s on his way home what happens? He says he wants to go back and finish his tour.
Moment of coolness #2.
Then, there’s this.

Take a close look at that hat, folks.
Nice to know the dude is wearing Old Glory instead of Union Jack.
Harry, I got no quarrel against you at this point. You show up anywhere nearby, have a drink on me.
Out.
