Important Announcement, Please Read.
posted by FinleyAll,
We have had some initial trepidation about making this announcement without discussing it with our friends first, but we figured that the time was right to make this known.
This will be the final message posted on Wetwired.
Pylorns and I have been offered and have accepted writing positions with Slant Weekly, a growing online/limited print magazine out of the Chicago area. Approximately six months ago, I went to Chicago as many of you known. Ostensibly, this trip was to visit several friends- at least, that is what Pylorns and I told those here in Austin that we have come to know and love.
Unbeknownst to them, this trip was in fact the setting for a face-to-face interview between myself and the Entertainment editor for Slant, W.R. Christopher. W.R., or “Bill” as I’ve come to know him, enjoyed the work written here on Wetwired and asked that we continue to send articles during that time. Since then, several of my articles have appeared under the pseudonym of “Chris Rove” while Pylorns has written as “Sylvia Wyss.” In fact, you may have read some of these articles in that time period.
Two days ago, Pylorns and I participated in a joint conference call with Bill and chief editor Jason Todd. The two informed us that the magazine had become so impressed with our work that they had decided to offer full-time positions with the staff of Slant Weekly, which would require relocation to Chicago. The pay is a sizeable increase over that which I earn at my current job here at the company I work for (though I cannot speak for Pylorns, I am certain that the same holds true for him as well), and Slant is wiling to cover moving expenses. The only “catch,” such as it was, was that our work would have to remain exclusive to Slant. After much soul-searching, we agreed to join the staff.
And so, it has come to this. I have enjoyed the five and a half years I have written for Wetwired, but it is time to move on. This site has been a constant for me during a time of great change, and I am greatly indebted to you, the reader, for that honor. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and wish you all the best. God Speed.
