To The Cast and Crew of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy…”

Thank you.

See, I just got out of your movie at it’s first showing in Austin. I’m going to be miserable at work tomorrow. And you know what?

I don’t care one bit.

It turns out that I enjoyed your movie immensely, after going in with an open mind to the new additions to the story for this different incarnation of the universe from which I have gained so much amusement and entertainment. I couldn’t have enjoyed this movie any more than I did, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Oh, and one last note- when the words “For Douglas” came up at the end, several members of the audience I was with clapped in agreement. I was one of them.

Now, bring on the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!

Take My Love, Take My Land…

The trailer for the upcoming movie “Serenity” was released today. “Serenity” is the film follow-up to the brilliant, screwed-over-by-Fox series from Joss Whedon.

Oh, I am SOOOOO looking forward to this one.

Okay, this is just plain nasty.

All I have to say is…

Eww.

I just hope he takes them to court, because in this case? Yeah, he’ll OWN that franchise.

Irony?

You are a democrat liberal and are advocating peace right? Ok so whats the first thing you do? Assault someone? What the hell is your problem you freaking idiot?
From Michelle Malkins site - through others:

From the Columbia Tribune in Missouri:

Rita Preckshot went to a peace rally, and a fight broke out.
It started out as a typical Wednesday for Preckshot, a 49-year-old who stands about 5-foot-2 and has hearing aids in both ears. She was standing on her normal spot on Providence Road, holding her signs in support of American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. For nearly four years now, this has been Preckshot

and so it is…

This is the week before finals for me. Don’t expect too many updates from me persay.

Interesting idea

An article on why you should support the FairTax proposal. Interesting read.

Doubtful that something like this would ever pass, but still interesting nonetheless.

Eppur Si Muove

Galileo published this book in 1633 called

How much Gasonline comes from a barrel?

What A Barrel Of Crude Oil Makes

Product Gallons per barrel

gasoline 19.5
distillate fuel oil 9.2
(Includes both home heating oil and diesel fuel)
kerosene-type jet fuel 4.1
residual fuel oil
(Heavy oils used as fuels in industry, marine transportation and for
electric power generation) 2.3
liquefied refinery gasses 1.9
still gas 1.9
coke 1.8
asphalt and road oil 1.3
petrochemical feedstocks 1.2
lubricants 0.5
kerosene 0.2
other 0.3

Figures are based on 1995 average yields for U.S. refineries. One barrel
contains 42 gallons of crude oil. The total volume of products made is 2.2
gallons greater than the original 42 gallons of crude oil. This
represents “processing gain.”

This should be regarded as an average. Crude oils vary widely in their
composition, and different oils will yields wildly differing amounts of
the different products.

Dunh, Daaah, Dunh-dunh-dunh-DAAAAHHH-dunnnhhh…

So, here’s the thing.

I hold in my hand confirmation for the purchase of one ticket to the 12:01 AM showing of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith at Tinseltown 20 in Pflugerville, TX. I purchased this earlier today from the Cinemark site.

Now, I know this show will sell out. I also know that I would likely see the show opening weekend anyway. My question to you all is this: Is it better to see the show that night with all of the fans, or to sell the ticket through the site? Further, is anyone interested in buying the ticket?

Pope Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI has greeted the crowds at the Vatican to cheers and applause today as the transfer of authority from Pope John Paul II is completed. News reports are listed on the earlier links given in my last post.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the 78-year-old native of Germany who had been chief overseer of doctrine for the Church since 1981, was elected to the papacy today following voting that took less than a day. The new pope was considered the early most likely candidate to follow Karol Jozef Wojtyla, and is known for his conservative views and orthodox stances on many pressing issues with the Church and society.

Okay, here’s my own take on this. This guy is a placeholder pope, plain and simple. The Church did not want another long reign after John Paul II, and wanted someone to be there for a few years to serve as something of a transition. I get that.

However, I have to ask- the College of Cardinals have just elected a pope from Germany who in his youth was drafted to serve in the army for Nazi Germany (though he has since recanted any affiliation with the Nazis, and in fact deserted the German Army during World War II). Is this going to hinder the Church’s current relationship with Israel, or will it affect it at all? Moreover, his conservative doctrines have not only shaped the Church for over a generation but have also put him at odds with many in Europe. Will this affect his ability to reach out as John Paul II did before him? I suppose that only time will tell.

Breaking News… A New Pope Has Been Elected.

CNN and multiple news sources are reporting that white smoke has come from the chimney at the Vatican where the Conclave is electing a new pope. Shortly afterwards, the bells of the cathedral began to ring. These two signals combined indicate that the Conclave of cardinals have elected a papal successor to John Paul II.

This article will be updated later today when further news is available.

UPDATE: Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been announced as the next head of the Roman Catholic Church. More Details as they become available.

Typical women.

Due to inherit a fortune when his sickly, widower father died, Robert decided he needed a woman to enjoy it with. So he went to a singles bar and he searched until he spotted a woman whose beauty took his breath away. “Right now, I’m just an ordinary man,” he said, walking up to her,”but within a month or two, my father will pass and I’ll inherit over 30 million dollars.” The woman went home with Robert, and four days later she became his stepmother.
