Web Design

Wetwired Time Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 at 1:24 pm by pylorns

The ALWAYS efficient flame-thrower. My favorite. I’ve come accross numerous sites that are on blogsexplosions that are actually not blogs but businesses… It annoys me.

Actually what annoys me more is the web designers that offer design with half ass design and stuff that is like 1995 web design standards. If you are going to design a website that is in the now, then you need to at least know what others are doing.

I’m all for taking advantage of hits and advertisements etc but when I browse 4 websites in a row that offer “cheap” “quality” web design but the web design site itself looks like a site made back in 1995, it makes me wonder.

As for who I recomend there are a lot out there, I can point you to the better design sites specifically for Blogs: Blogmoxie , Mrs Jenni, Web Diva’s , and, design and lots of templates pre-made at Migrane Design.

With all that said, I’ve still gotten requests by people to host and design.

Question: Will you host me?
Answer: Maybe, let me look.

Question: Will you help me redesign?
Answer: I don’t like “helping” because a design is basically a one man job.

Question: Ok, will you redesign for me?
Answer: Maybe. My time is limited and I actually stoppped doing webdesign for a long time just because I grew tired. Lately though I’ve gotten some newfound energy.

Question: What sites have you done?
Answer: This one. which is a continual work in progress with 10 redesigns in 4 years. Designed in notepad, photoshop, flash etc.

RKDS - Rabid Koala Death Squad. A Counter-strike clan, designed and hosted. Photoshop and dreamweaver.

Hsubaru - Designed. Photoshop and dreamweaver.

MistahMagik - Designed and hosted. Photoshop, dreamweaver.

Question: How much?
Answer: Cheap*. I do it for fun, not for profit. Maybe one day I might do it for profit only, who knows.

*not to be confused with above cheap previously mentioned.

Pylorns Web Tips 101

Wetwired Time Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 at 8:27 am by pylorns

In browsing blogs lately I’ve come accross a lot of blogs that have good content, but I find myself not wanting to really read them because the page doesnt have enough eye candy. So here are some random tips from the great book of pylorns web tips…

Tip #1657:
If you put as much thought into your webpage design as you do your writing you will have a huge number of readers. If you don’t know how to do web design, ask for help, spend a bit of money.

Tip #37:
Ask yourself why you are blogging. When you read your page, is it for your own personal diary? Is it for others to read and enjoy? If you want others to go to your site. Obvisouly you do if your coming from blogsexplosion; you want more readers. Now ask yourself if the content you have on your site, is it “content worthy”. When you go to someone elses site and they had something like what you have, would you stop and read it?

Tip #597:
To drive up traffic, and readers, you yourself must be a reader. Frequent other blogs and comment. Commenting is what lets the person know you have read what they have written for your pleasure.

Tip # 1494:
Pictures: Post pictures from time to time wether its personal or its something you’re linking to. Pictures grab attention more than a page of words and letters.

Now you’re reading all this and you say, “Pylorns you haven’t done everything, I mean all you got on your site is some cartoon characters.”

Piss off. I had them done and they actually resemble people who post here including myself. I put money into them. What the hell have you done lately to promote your site besides blogsexplosion?

Theres the rub.

Help Fnliii get an iPod!

Wetwired Time Wednesday, October 20th, 2004 at 2:01 am by Finley

Okay, so this looks like it may be fake. But if it isn’t, then groovy.

This is a link to sign up for the free iPod program. I’ve seen people talk about testing the waters on this offer on the forums, and I decided to go ahead and do it- that’s right- I’m trying out the program, and I need your help. I need five people to use the link I provided for the freeipod website and sign up. I’ve already performed the offer and am getting the credit- now I need the referrals.

Were it not for the fact that I am seeing legit coverage of this thing, then I’d ignore it. But hey- if it works, so much the better for all of us right?

I’ll let you know if this works, and if it does I’ll be sure to sing the praises of the group doing it and let you know everything I find out. If not… trust me, you’ll know.

Out.

Thirty Seconds

Wetwired Time Tuesday, October 19th, 2004 at 1:27 pm by pylorns

Update: The winner is…

Caption: Mikey was beginning to suspect he had used a little too much lubricant…

Rob. You get NOTHING! Just kidding, all I have to give away are gmail accounts so if you want one.. its yours.

Jeez, thirty seconds to catch your eye. Thirty seconds to grab your attention long enough for you to actually want to comment on this site. Thirty seconds for me to coerce you into adding wetwired to your blogroll. How about this, you blog roll me, I’ll blog roll you. Promise. Wetwired is an established site that will only get larger. Our target audience is 20-35 yr old men and women. Although for the most part its mid twenty something computer geeks who masturbate 8 times a day. (how’s that for market placement?)

Ok, maybe not. God I hope your not spanking it while reading this site. What could possibly be erotic about it?

Thirty seconds is not bad time limit I think. The attention span of modern man has dropped I’m sure to that. Now adays EVERYONE is ADD or ADHD. Its like the fix all solution for an instant gratification society that we’ve turned into.

So if your coming to this site via blogexplosion, welcome, comment and add wetwired to your blogroll and then let me know you did.

Now as for the picture above - I found it on some other random site, but for today and for today only for you wankers coming from all over - I’m holding a caption contest for the picture. So comment damnit.

Well no word from Magik or Wired Nerve. Let alone the problem with 360 media’s web page. Their page that had all the additional information was down for a majority of last week when I wanted to get it setup. I’m hoping that magik or wired nerve got some good pictures and have something to post.

Pros and Cons of Office Romance

Wetwired Time Monday, October 18th, 2004 at 9:32 am by MJ

Office romances have made Hollywood producers and paperback writers a fortune. But they could cost you your job if you’re not careful. Here are some pros and cons to consider before you decide to date one of your coworkers.

Pro: More free time. Most people spend a lot of time at the office and have little time left to look for a partner. If you date one of your coworkers, you can skip the fix-ups and speed dating events and won’t need to scan the local pubs for a possible mate. That time can be spent on each other.

Con: Fewer happy hours. Instead of heading to the “usual place” for a quick cocktail, you and your mate will likely be grabbing Chinese to go so you can catch reruns of “Law & Order” at home.

Pro: Ego Boost. You can think you’re the hottest gal or guy in the office all you want.

Con: No more bluffing. When you date someone from the office, you can dash all hopes of bragging about your big job, your corner office or primo parking space. With any luck you’ll at least choose someone who is on equal footing and recognizes your value just the way you are.

Pro: Overtime and big projects are more enjoyable. If your department lands a big project that requires long nights and weekends at the office, the two of you can order pizza in and never have to wonder what each other is really doing ’til all hours of the night.

Con: You still need to get your work done. If you’re not careful, you could catch yourself spending more time at work focusing on your relationship than on your job responsibilities. That could put you in jeopardy of losing your job or getting a poor performance review.

Pro: You have a sympathetic ear. When you share the same colleagues, complaining about your day at the office takes on more meaning when your partner actually knows who you are talking about and can relate to the situation.

Con: You sacrifice personal space. If you go to work with your partner and come home with your partner, there’s not much private time left just for you. If you are the kind of person who “wants to be alone,” you may find an office romance suffocating.

Pro: More time together. An office courtship will allow you more time to get to know your partner to assess if he or she will make a good long-term mate. Dating a coworker takes a lot of the guesswork out of the relationship as you may be sitting right beside one another to witness each and every move.

Con: More time together. If the romance doesn’t work out, there’s no escaping your ex. Each day, as you head to work you’ll need to muster the courage to face your former partner possibly flirting with the new file clerk.

Greetings from Sunny Prison.

Wetwired Time Sunday, October 17th, 2004 at 11:27 am by pylorns

No, not me. Martha! Mwahahahaha. (hat tip to redsaid for this one)

Dear Friends,

I have been told that more than 2.5 million of you have visited marthatalks.com since last Friday when I self-surrendered in the pre-dawn darkness to F.P.C. (Federal Prison Camp) Alderson in Alderson, West Virginia. I am touched by this outpouring of support.

The camp is fine; it is pretty much what I anticipated. The best news — everyone is nice — both the officials and my fellow inmates. I have adjusted and am very busy. The camp is like an old-fashioned college campus — without the freedom, of course.

I’ll be making postings now and then, but thank you for the concern and good wishes expressed in the thousands of emails you have recently sent to this website. I am also touched that supporters have already sent hundreds of letters to me at Alderson in my first week here.

I have been told that some of these letters have included gifts and money. Please know that while these gestures of friendship and support are deeply appreciated, any such items must be returned to the sender by prison officials. Instead, if you are so inclined, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society, a charitable organization that means a lot to me and to the people of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

Your goodwill and best wishes will get me through this next chapter in my life.
Sincerely,

Martha Stewart

Liberal Media

Wetwired Time Thursday, October 14th, 2004 at 8:16 am by pylorns

Its amazing how quickly the media jumps on the band wagon. A lot of them just said it was a draw, but soon as the democrats started saying that Kerry won - the media jumped in and was like well Kerry won all 3 debates. Thats what I call liberal.

Death was putting in overtime this past weekend!!!

Wetwired Time Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 at 7:33 am by MJ

Well after a weekend like this lets just hope that Death is on Holiday in the Bahamas…. Well they say that famous people pass away in threes, and sure enough Death had a “Hat trick” this weekend! First off we had the mighty “Man of Steel!” Superman, Christopher Reeves, pass away Sunday. Then I also heard news of Max Faget dying, although I am sure most people do not know who he was or what he did, just that his name brings to mind a childish giggle from adolecent humor. But Max Faget, was a Rocket Scientist, kinda, He was the Designer of the Mercury Spacecraft, which carried the first American into space (Alan Shepard). But anyways he is pushing up daisys now, and last but certainly not least, a great player of my generation, in the great game of baseball, Ken Caminiti died Sunday also, of a heart attack. So as you can see, Death was a little busy this weekend.

Christopher Reeve (aka SuperMan) has died at 52

Wetwired Time Monday, October 11th, 2004 at 1:48 am by magik

BEDFORD, N.Y. - Christopher Reeve, the star of the “Superman” movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52.
Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.

Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.

“On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband,” Dana Reeve, Christopher’s wife, said in a statement. “I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years.”

Reeve broke his neck in May 1995 when he was thrown from his horse during an equestrian competition in Culpeper, Va.

Enduring months of therapy to allow him to breathe for longer and longer periods without a respirator, Reeve emerged to lobby Congress for better insurance protection against catastrophic injury and to move an Academy Award audience to tears with a call for more films about social issues.

He returned to directing, and even returned to acting in a 1998 production of “Rear Window,” a modern update of the Hitchcock thriller about a man in a wheelchair who becomes convinced a neighbor has been murdered. Reeve won a Screen Actors Guild award for best actor in a television movie or miniseries.

“I was worried that only acting with my voice and my face, I might not be able to communicate effectively enough to tell the story,” Reeve said. “But I was surprised to find that if I really concentrated, and just let the thoughts happen, that they would read on my face. With so many close-ups, I knew that my every thought would count.”

In his public appearances, he was as handsome as ever, his blue eyes bright and his voice clear.
“Hollywood needs to do more,” he said in the March 1996 Oscar awards appearance. “Let’s continue to take risks. Let’s tackle the issues. In many ways our film community can do it better than anyone else. There is no challenge, artistic or otherwise, that we can’t meet.”

In 2000, Reeve was able to move his index finger, and a specialized workout regimen has made his legs and arms stronger. He has also regained sensation in other parts of his body.

Second Presidential Debate Thoughts

Wetwired Time Friday, October 8th, 2004 at 8:28 pm by Finley

Not posting a full analysis tonight, but from what I’ve seen so far, I have one thing to say: Bush has GOT to stop answering each question so angrily. He gets emotional in his answers, which is all well and good. But when he puts anger in his voice, it sends the wrong message in terms of tone.

Out.
