The Village

Like a lot of stupid movie goers, I decided to see this movie opening night. I ordered my tickets online through ye old trusty fandango, and arrived 45 minutes prior. Normally you wait inside, but this night the line was all the way outside. Luckily we found a seat by the time we made it into the theatre. Others did not and actually sat on the steps. Poor bastards.

Among the most notable stars in The Village are Bryce Dallas Howard ,Joaquin Phoenix ,Adrien Brody, William Hurt, and Sigourney Weaver.

The acting in it was very superb for the style of screen play in the sense that the dialogue was written where it doesn’t allow for much inflection. Ie. “Let the bad color not be seen, it attracts them.” Yes, the entire movie they speak like that.

Like all of M Night Shyamalan’s flics it has a twist in it. Actually four twists. One you can probably figure out halfway through the movie. The others, you may not until the ending of the movie.

The good thing about this is that Adrian Brody’s character finally gets his credit where credit is due. Especially after that Oscar fiasco where he spouted off his political spectrum.

Like Signs, The Village does not ever show you except for brief instances the creature. M Night employs an awesome spectrum of music and sound effects and camera moves to raise the tension. To hear but not see, they say is sometimes more frightening than to see the beast throughout.

The actual amount of time you’re spent on the edge of your seat is actually quite brief, most of the time we’re spent trying to figure out what the twist is and watching the character exposition unfold. Sadly to say, out of all of M Night’s movies I liked this one the least. If I had to rate it, I give it a 3/5 rating.

Back in black.

Back after a weekend of slacking off. I’ve heard through the grapevine that Kerry hasn’t done any good in the polls after the convention. Very little word though on the spread that Bush has pulled away. Could it be the American public saw through the blatant out and out lies that came from the DCNC? I mean, I was told that a truck load of sunshine was on its way to my front porch along with a huge raise in the minimum wage and I’ve been told that all of the U.S. economy problems will be instantly resolved.

Hell I’m going home to wait for my new HDTV I’ve been promised too. I’d settle for a candidate that was honest and had some sort of interest for the public in hand. You know, someone that says ‘Hey, I can’t fix everything and make it all right, but 4 years I’ll certainly give it a shot.’

In other news (hattip to Simonworld) Eric Bana is going to become the next James Bond?

Yeah, that guy. The guy from the Hulk and Troy. I’m sorry I just can’t see it. Maybe its because back in 1994 when I heard that Pierce Brosnan was going to be doing James Bond, I was ecstatic. I mean hear was a guy made for the part. He and Sean Connery have been the best bonds out of them all. If you ask me, I think Brosnan will mark the end of a dynasty for Bond.

“Eric is the guy they want but he has a reputation for being demanding. They want to modernise Bond and turn him into a youthful, suave and modern hero to compete with the likes of Spider-Man and Keanu [Reeves] in the Matrix,” the source said.

See that. To me that spells the end of Bond. Bond is supposed to be rough, sophisticated and technology is always handed to him and he destroys it all. He’s not Neo from the matrix. He doesn’t have super powers and spidey-sense. Ian Fleming would roll in his grave if they knew what these wankers were trying to do with his beloved Character.

The Republicans are gearing up for the Convention now. Is it just me, or does Cheney look like a robot with a fake smile?
My question is will I be promised a truckload of sunshine like I was from the Democrats?

Here is the biggest news to come out lately though. It seems that the republicans are planning to eliminate the IRS. Hard to believe? Yeah I thought so.

“By adopting a VAT, sales tax, or some other alternative, we could begin to change productivity. If you can do that, you can change gross national product and start growing the economy. You could double the economy over the next fifteen years. All of a sudden, the problem of what future generations owe in Social Security and Medicare won?t be so daunting anymore. The answer is to grow the economy, and the key to doing that is making sure we have a tax system that attracts capital and builds incentives to keep it here instead of forcing it out to other nations.”

But what if the economy flounders because outsourcing still is such a viable solution for the industries? Will the US government have a budget crisis? I’m in favor of a Flat tax it makes sense because everyone shares the burden of taxes equally and it would no longer ride on the backs of the middle class.
