I am fairly certain I know what the hold up is on the front page loading. I will see if I can address it before the week is out.
In other news these two dweebs couldn’t have taken worse pictures. Currently Bush is in the lead in the Polls while Kerry closes the gap. In what I would like to call No-descision 2004, you’ll need to vote for me. Why should you vote for either of these guys when they are funded by the same people that tell you how to dress and how to think. If they had their say, you’d be mindless zombies that worked for the greater good of the Fatherland. Of course, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.
Short post tonight, just a simple message to all.
Go see Jersey Girl. It’s worth the price of admission.
And now, back to your usual programming.
Out.
Well, I’ve been waiting for it and it’s finally happened- a local government has banned marriage.
As in straight AND gay.
I’ll give you a moment to digest that.
…
You good? Okay then.
See, it’s like this- a county board in Oregon decided that since their own legal system hadn’t clarified the issue of whether or not gay marriage in Oregon was legal, in the interest of equality they were going to ban ALL marriages. The last marriage license was granted on Tuesday, and now if anyone in the county wants to get married they have to go somewhere else.
I personally think it’s an interesting move, and one that is much needed. See, the once-fair question of whether or not equality amongst sexualities extended to marriage or civil unions or whatever has now escalated to an overblown, outrageously ridiculous and overhyped media event and we need a classic overreaction like this one to put a spotlight on the absurdity of it all. Moreover, neither side in the debate has exactly come off smelling like roses. Local governments that have been allowing marriage licenses to be granted to gay couples have been doing so oftentimes against the laws of their states. Hard to hold onto the high horse when you can’t even follow the law you swore to protect- and agree with it or not, it’s still the law. On the flip side, the ultraconservative side has done a little overreacting of their own by suggesting a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I hate to bring up the point that the last constitutional amendment that banned any activity got overturned about 12 or 13 years later. You may remember this one- Prohibition. See, it’s tough to get the nation behind an amendment to the Constitution that denies rather than defines for any long period of time.
Now, I’m not going to sit here and tell you my personal beliefs on the matter. I know that you don’t really care how I fall on this issue. But whether we agree on this one or not, I think we all just want to see this go away and be dealt with.
Oh, and one more thing- bad form on both sides to try and make this such a huge issue. We have bigger fish to fry, and we all know it.
Out.
I think that may become the running theme for my night postings. We all have to have something, after all.
A friend of mine that applied for Journalism school at UT got turned down by the school this past week. She and I have known each other for about ten years now. She’s probably one of my closest friends, in fact. She’s been there through the easy times and the rough. Part of me is really sad and disappointed that she won’t be moving this way, though not for the reasons you may think.
See, Misti (that’s her name) and I have formed a very close platonic relationship over the years. We met in our early teen years, had a written correspondence for a couple years, then moved on to phone calls and email. Nowadays, she’s a phone call away. Well, actually that’s half right. Normally she’d be a phone call away. Right now though, she’s teaching an English class in Mexico. Misti has become a member of my inner circle over time- that small group of people that know and see the real me. I mean, they know ME, not the carefully constructed facade I put out to the world. Beerslinger’s in that group as well, though we’d both kid about it more than anything to others.
He actually factors into this as well. Misti and Beerslinger have met over the years. They have pretty much one or two things in common- me. Misti is in fact pretty much the complete opposite of Beerslinger. She’s as fiesty and hardheaded a liberal as anyone I’ve ever met, and she will waste no time in making that clear in discussions about politics, social issues and other topics. beerslinger’s a definite conservative, as you can see from his posts here every so often. Me? I’m a moderate conservative who’s leaned a little more to the left on certain issues than Beerslinger but far to the right on most issues from Misti.
Anyways, back to the story. A few years back, BS comes to me and says that he’s spoken to Misti and he asks if I have any romantic feelings for her. I won’t lie- I’ve entertained the thought once or twice over the years. But that thought is quickly snuffed out and I move away from it just as fast. Why, do you ask? Well, Misti is like a sister to me. She’s the friend you had in high school who you grew up along side, and as the years passed you remained good friends but both knew that not only wouldn’t you go further than that but that you also both didn’t WANT to go further. Hell, the fact that we’ve known each other a decade and hadn’t cut our ties blew the both of us away recently.
So, that’s not the reason I’m sad and disappointed. No, I’m more disappointed that a friend who has invested a lot personally into wanting to further her education and career options isn’t able to go to the school she really wanted to attend. I’m sad that we won’t be able to hang out every now and then at a bar or coffee shop, arguing the finer points of foreign policy or some other topic. I’m sad that she’s going to have to settle for another school. But I’m also hopeful that she finds what she wants, and I think she’ll do just fine in any case.
Out.
Yes, after a week of waiting, wetwired has returned. What happened you ask?
Interested in what it takes to run this site and some of the others? Somewhere around $400 a year.
That mistical magical day has arrived. The day that we wait 4 working days to get to. And now I ask myself. What the hell am I going to do?
(Funny. Before my rampant inability to sleep I never posted a damn thing here. Now, me up until just before dawn leads to me posting like crazy.)
It’s sometimes sad and yet amusing where my mind goes at night.
Case in point. I’m sitting here at 4:30 in the morning, looking up Jodie Sweetin. Who is Jodie Sweetin, you may ask? Well, she played Stephanie in the Full House sitcom that ran from 1987 to 1995. I was curious as to how old she is, and what she looks like now. And before you ask- I was flipping through cable and came across an old episode on Nick at Nite. Me being bored at night and unable to sleep, I went ahead and looked it up.
The good news- she’s 22, got married to some guy in 2002 and is pretty much not in the industry anymore (and has a decent body nowadays to boot). The sad news- big face on that girl now that she’s all grown up. I mean, bigger face than head. The face literally looks like it’s too big for the size head she has. Yeah, the big smile and stuff was cute when she was a kid. But nowadays…
Look, I know I have a huge skull on me. But at least my face is proportional to the size of my head. This girl just looks damned odd. And hey- maybe it’s just me tired and grumpy and looking for something amusing at 4:30 in the morning. But maybe-just maybe- I’ve stumbled onto something.
Maybe she’s an alien. Or, maybe she just took a couple bad pictures and her face is perfectly normal.
Nah, I’m going with the alien.
Out.
After careful consideration and discussions with my wife Buffy-Marie, I have decided that I will not seek the office of President. This decision was hard, but in the end I decided that not only was I too young and didn’t have a wife nor do I KNOW anyone named Buffy-Marie, but I also don’t WANT to be president.
Now, on with the campaign to be ruler of the world!
Out.
Basically I hammered out quick notes on what I thought should be covered. Things like FICA, Education and Taxes I did not have the time to continue to fluff out. But I will argue with you on my stances. I am not for larger government, I am for less.
1. I know that all information is readily available; the problem is most people don’t care or are not motivated enough. If a public figure continued to say, “This is the reason these things didn’t happen, and you can read about it on my website
Why a man who needs no lesson in civic pride, still needs a lesson in civics.
After reading Pylorns
You know, something has been bothering me about The Passion Of The Christ, but for the life of me I couldn’t put my finger on it. It wasn’t the movie, per se. But there was something about it that bothered me about it and I finally figured it out- it’s the success.
Now, it’s not what you think. I’m glad that the movie is successful. I’m happy for Mel Gibson making a crapload of money. Hell, I’m even happy that people are finding more insight into their faith from the movie. But the success of this movie has me worried now. Why, do you ask?
See, the Hollywood executive’s mind works like this- “Hey, this religion stuff seems to really be popular now. Maybe we can make ourselves some money out of this too. Make a couple movies, make ‘em cheap, and see what we can pull in.”
Even that doesn’t bother me… until I consider the worst case scenario. Now, once you get to the end of this article close your eyes. Then, imagine a movie trailer with that trailer guy’s voice narrating. Then, imagine him saying this…
“Freddie Prinze Jr. is… MOSES!”
That’s what keeps me awake at night, folks.
Out.
You heard me right. Everyone complains about Democrats and Republicans not really listening to anyone. They say they both have their own agendas. This is true. When I go to vote, I vote for the person who I feel will do the least amount of damage. The problem is, everyone up there is the same, they all say the same lies and promise miraculous changes. But nothing really changes. Its smoke and mirror. There are still $1000 toilet seats, cover ups, dummy companies to siphon money…. You get the point.
It’s the good ‘ole boy network that keeps politics, politics. It keeps the same type of people in office instead of someone who has not been influenced by the political engine. These people don’t care about you. Why should they, they have their own interests in mind, their own egos and agendas to push.
The truth is, if you elect me, I won’t give a damn about you either. I’ll do the exact same thing they do. But here is where I will be different. I will tell you what I am doing. You don’t have to like it, cause a lot of you won’t. But at least I’ll tell you. I.E. “Yes, I had one of my interns give me a blow in the oval office. ” Ok, maybe not. Actually when it comes to sex and the president, it’s none of your damn business.
What I am going to do is what I feel is right for the country. You don’t have to agree with me just listen, and realize that what I say is what I will do. Not something to say just to get re-elected.
1. Blog I will keep a blog and disclose everything about my plight to get things done in congress, including naming names of Congressmen and Senators that block the bills I am trying to pass through. I will blatantly put them out in the public eye for scrutiny. I will also do research on those senators constituents and find out how they wish the senators to vote, and publish how the senators actually have voted. I think this will begin to weed out some of the elected officials that continue to stay in office year after year.
2. Iraq I will immediately recall our troops in Iraq, and call for an immediate turn over to Nato to help setup a governing body. We will own up to our responsibility though and continue to rebuild Iraq but our troops no longer need to die needlessly by some kid who just learned how to shoot a ak47 and thinks it’ll be cool to kill a U.S. Soldier thinking Allah will give him 20 virgins.
3. Iran I will give them a month to allow weapons inspections and full dismantlement of their nuclear program. If they don’t show promise, we will dismantle it for them.
4. North Korea One month. And like above, we’ll dismantle it. Not only will we do that, we will send in not, a 100,000 troops, but 20 elite assassins to take out the leadership.
5. Abolish NAFTA.
6. Abolish all bills giving rights to illegal immigrants.
7. Increase amount of green cards/legal status given.
8. Access the needs of farmers that use migrant workers and determine best way to get labor force from current workers in America.
9. Restructure welfare. There are too many freeloaders in this country. Get jobs. In fact, I’ll send you down to the border to take the place of the migrant workers I just kicked out cause they were illegal immigrants.
10. Abolish any ideas/bills for universal healthcare. It’s a bad Idea. Tennessee is already suffering.
11. Go through the entire budget and kill programs that don’t make sense. This includes firing people that buy $1000 toilet seats.
12. Education in this country is sad. I will revoke any private school money from the government. It’s a private school you don’t need funding. Teachers will get the pay raises they require. There will be no more cut backs in education. This country needs an influx of good teachers that can make a difference on young minds.
13. Social Security is a big issue especially in Florida. I will allow for people to have the ability to determine how their money is invested. Since I don’t know as much about it, I will hire people that have good common sense to help structure a new Social Security plan.
14. Environment Why is environment #14 on my list? Because there were so many other things to get to. I don’t know enough about drilling for oil in Alaska, but its just a couple caribou. Legitimately I would want to know the actual cost savings of doing this and what are we looking at to run another pipeline down through Canada. Most car manufactures are starting to come up with more hybrid cars. I plan on increasing funding to creating hydrogen filling stations for fuel cells, so that it can become more common place.
15. Taxes Everyone complains about taxes. Its normal. No longer will the middle class bare the weight of the upper-class and lower class of society. This time, flat tax, means flat tax. 15% across the board. Rich, Poor, Middle Class - everyone will take on the burden equally. By doing this I will also restructure and close down most income tax offices since there will no longer be a need for so many people to help decipher the current tax situation. It has become so complicated now a days its absurd. Sure companies like H&R block will suffer, but hey, I’m doing what I think is right, not what some company trying to lobby thinks is right.
16. Abortion It’s called separation of church and state for a reason folks.
17. Single I think America needs a single president, one that actually dates. That’s what I call reality TV.
18. Marriage The majority of marriages flop in this country. Along with the marriage license there will be additional information on counseling, and it will be government aided counseling.
19. Gays I don’t care if you get married, neither should the Government. Like I said, separation of church and state for a reason. But the above point applies to this.
20. Less Government. The government does not need to be in your business.
If you missed the pics I’ll tell ya. MJ and I went down to Lake Charles this past weekend to hang with Magik and Di. I’ll have more pics up on the gallery soon enough.
In other related news, the forum is broken - at least if you want to register, you can’t. I’m looking into that. Aside from that we now have a new artist and there will continue to be updates to the site as well as the t-shirts that were promised.
(Note- the title and this article are meant sarcastically. Take it as such, and understand Beerslinger’s one of my oldest and closest friends and that I am in fact very grateful for what he did that I describe below.)
Beerslinger’s a dick.
See, a couple months ago he got me hooked to the novels of Greg Rucka. He bought the first two novels in the Atticus Kodiak series for me- Keeper and Finder. Gave them to me for free, in fact. Kinda like a drug dealer. And sure enough, I got hooked.
Rucka’s Atticus Kodiak is a professional bodyguard. The Kodiak books are exciting, enthralling and tough to put down. I purchased the fourth book in the series and couldn’t find the third or fifth. Here, Beerslinger proved to be a dick again by warning me not to read the fourth book before the third, as it could ruin the story and the surprises for me. Only a dick would look out for my enjoyment factor like that, you see.
He recently came back to town for a day, and once again proved how big a dick he is by giving me copies of the third and fifth books for free- FREE, I SAY!!! I managed to read through the three books in a week- actually, that isn’t quite correct. It took five days. The fifth book, the longest one- that one I read in less than 24 hours because I simply couldn’t put it down.
And now, I’m pissed. See, I got so into these books that now I’m gonna have to wait for Rucka to come out with the next book in the Kodiak series. I’m gonna have to suggest to my friends and others that they HAVE to read these books. I’m going to have to loan my copies to my father, a mystery and suspense fan, so that he can enjoy them. And worst of all, I have to thank Beerslinger for pointing me to these books and helping me discover one of my new favorite things.
Thanks, Beerslinger. Thanks a whole lot, dick.
Out.
