Depressing Day…
posted by pylornsWhy is Thursday such a depressing day? Both Helen and Emily are posting about suicide. I guess its days like this that I am glad that I chose psychology as a future profession. My philosophy has always been that, with time, everything works itself out. Even when it seems like everything is completely against you, the world hates you. Things just have a way of working out. It’s like a scale, a balancing act. Sometimes one side outwieghs the other, other times its the other way around. But things work out because someone or something (event) will put a weight on one end to bring the scale back into balance. The same thing happens to the Earth, when things aren’t right, it cleanses itself. It sets things right again, through a series of huge events. At least, in the perspective of a planatary scale.
Why do people consider suicide? There are so many reasons, and so many different aspects to human nature. But human nature is to survivie. So to end your life, rather to end it with your own hand, is to go against human nature, which is just about imposible. Hence, while you are doing it, you are thinking, ‘I shouldn’t do this,’ ‘What If?’ That is that little voice saying ‘this is wrong.’ If it was not against human nature then more people would just say ‘fuck it’ and kill themselves; and we’d probably have a rash of suicides from all of the stressful jobs in our modern lives. Instead, we have people that attempt, and this is, a cry for help. My only hope is that anyone that reaches out gets some aspect of help. Otherwise the scale will not get a weight on the other side.
Some might argue that its survival of the fittest. Extreme Darwinism you might say. Our world population is too crowded as it is, you might say. What if Einstein had committed suicide from the pressures of his time? Oh yes, he too had fits of depression.
So to you two who posted about your issues, you’re brave. And we are glad that your cry for help was noticed and not left unheard. Who knows what you will discover in the comming years.
